Coates and Spearing on target for reserves

Sebastian Coates scored his first goal for Liverpool reserves as they hammered Sunderland reserves 5-0 on Tuesday.

Coates, Jay Spearing, Jon Flanagan and Danny Wilson were all in Rodolfo Borrell’s starting eleven and it was Liverpool who made a flying start with early goals from Sebastian Coates and Jay Spearing.

Coates opened the scoring for the Reds when he crept in to convert a Suso cross before Spearing drilled in a a low shot beyond King 25 yards from goal.

Just before the half-time mark, Spearing grabbed his second and Liverpool’s third. Seeing his initial shot parried by King, Spearing followed up to give Borrell’s side a 3-0 lead at half time.

Nathan Eccleston was introduced on the hour mark replacing Adam Morgan following his return from a loan spell at Rochdale. With eight minutes remaining, Sunderland pulled a goal back when Coates felled Lynch in the area and Noble fired the penalty past Hansen.

The final minutes saw substitute Eccleston score a majestic brace in front of the watching Kenny Dalglish.
