Friday’s LFC Transfer Rumours – Teixeira, Defoe and Granero

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has confirmed he is interested in signing highly-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira.

The 19-year-old is available at a cut-price with his contract with Lisbon expiring in the summer, although reports suggest Liverpool are prepared to pay close to £1million to secure his services ahead of other clubs.

When asked about the speculation linking Teixeira to Liverpool, Dalglish said, “There might be something about that.”

The deal to sign the youngster is expected to be completed in the next few days. However, Teixeira has yet to break into the Lisbon first team.

Meanwhile reported Liverpool target Jermaine Defoe has hinted that he could be eyeing a move away from the club unless he can be promised regular first team football.

Defoe has been linked with a move to Anfield from Spurs, with the North London side eyeing Marseille forward Loic Remy as a replacement.

“It’s just a case of me playing,” said Defoe. “I could understand if I was 19, 20 and I had time on my hands but I’m 29 now and, like I’ve always said, all I want to do is play football. It’s as simple as that.”

“As it stands I’m a Tottenham player and if I do play against Manchester City I’ll be fully committed. I’m sure everyone knows that at the club.”

And reports in the Spanish media suggest Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of bringing Esteban Granero to Merseyside from Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old Spanish international isn’t getting many games at the Bernabeu and Liverpool Director of Football, Damien Comolli, is said to be ready to talk to the midfielder.
