Daniel Agger injury latest

Liverpool’s Daniel Agger has been forced to withdraw from the Denmark squad for a forthcoming international friendly with Russia with a suspected broken rib.

The central defender was forced off the pitch during Liverpool’s Carling Cup Final victory over Cardiff City at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

Agger will stay on Merseyside to have tests on the injury and begin recovery. He could be sidelined for around 8 weeks, with confirmation from the club expected later this evening.

Denmark coach Morten Olsen told press ahead of their meeting with Russia, “Daniel does not attend. He has sent his apologies. It is no surprise.

“We – and especially Daniel – are sorry that he cannot come but we have some others who have also done well when he has not been present.”

UPDATE: Reports on Tuesday night suggest the Dane will miss a month with the injury.
