Enrique says Reds still in chase for fourth

Left-back Jose Enrique believes Liverpool are still in the race for fourth spot, but conceded the team must pick up their home form to mount a challenge for that important Champions League spot.

The defeat at Manchester United on Saturday leaves the Reds in seventh place in the league, four points behind fourth placed Arsenal, who beat Sunderland.

Disappointed after the 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, Enrique told the club’s official web site, “We lost but the truth is that we have to win more games at home. It is hard to beat Manchester United at home but against teams like Blackburn and Swansea at home we need to win the points.

“We are still in the race to be in the Champions League next season. It’s hard, but Chelsea and Arsenal have lost many points too. Chelsea lost this weekend and we can’t forget Newcastle.

“You never know in football – that’s why everyone likes it. But we’re still in the race.”

Enrique went on to point out that Liverpool still have games at home to Chelsea and Arsenal to come – both of whom are fighting for fourth place too.

“It’s really important that we have to play these teams at home,” he added. “We’ll have another man – you play with 12 with our fans.

“But it’s not just them. There are many games left and we have to beat many teams to try and be there.”
