Video: Stoke 0-8 Liverpool – Ziege, Smicer, Babbel, Fowler, Hyypia & Murphy on target

As Liverpool prepare to face Stoke City in the FA Cup 6th Round at Anfield this afternoon (kick-off 4pm, ITV1), we take a trip down memory lane and bring you the goals from a Red demolition of the Potters at the Britannia Stadium in 2000.

After almost going a goal down early on (you’ll notice one Pegguy Arphexad playing in goal for Liverpool), the Reds hit back to score eight without reply at lowly Stoke.

Goals came from German left-back Christian Ziege, Czech hero of Istanbul five years later Vladimir Smicer, German world-class defender Markus Babbel, God himself Robbie Fowler with a hat-trick, a young-looking Sami Hyypia and midfielder Danny Murphy.

And surely a testament to his success, Jamie Carragher started for Liverpool that day and may well face Stoke later today, some 12 years on.

Liverpool, of course, went on to win the competition – and indeed add the FA Cup and UEFA Cup that season.

The Liverpool team that night was: Arphexad, Babbel, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Partridge, Murphy, McAllister, Ziege, Smicer, Fowler.
