Emergency loan deal ruled out for Liverpool

Liverpool will not be allowed to sign a goalkeeper on loan for Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Everton.

The Reds are without first choice keeper Pepe Reina after his dismissal against Newcastle and now have lost their second choice keeper Alexander Doni after he was sent off last night in the win at Blackburn.

That means Brad Jones will deputise for the Wembley match, with either Tyrell Belford or Danny Ward as the substitute keeper. Belford is 17, Ward 18, both have appeared for the reserves this season.

The Premier League who have confirmed Liverpool will not be able to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan deal. Premier League regulations only allow a move when injury, rather than suspension, affects a squad.

Liverpool have until 1pm today to appeal Doni’s dismissal. Any such appeal would very unlikely be successful, afterall, this is The FA.

Liverpool’s fourth choice keeper is Peter Gulacsi, 21, who is on a season loan to Hull City but has been injured since the turn of the year.
