Liverpool release full back Stephen Darby

Liverpool have released full back Stephen Darby and five other youngsters, along with out-of-contract Fabio Aurelio.

Darby, 23, has spent the last three seasons on loan to Swindon, Notts County and Rochdale, having made his Liverpool debut in November 2008. He made three appearances the following season. His last involvement with the first-team was in 2010 as an unused sub against FK Rabotnicki in the Europa League.

Darby was part of the FA Youth Cup winning teams of 2006 and 2007, captaining the side to victory in 2006.

Joining Darby on the released list are youngsters David Amoo – who has signed for Preston North End, Kristjan Emilsson, Emmanuel Mendy, Matthew McGiveron and Michael Roberts.

Fabio Aurelio, who was given a two-year contract by Roy Hodgson having been released earlier that summer after failing to agree a pay-as-you-play deal, has joined Brazilian side Gremio.
