Liverpool announce signing of Joe Allen

Liverpool have officially announced the signing of midfielder Joe Allen from Swansea City.

Liverpool met a £15m release clause in the player’s contract and the 22 year old has now signed a long term contract at Anfield.

Allen watched from the stands as Liverpool beat FC Gomel 3-0 on Thursday afternoon before having his medical and completing the move on Friday.

The Welsh midfielder was a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad at Swansea last season and becomes the new manager’s second signing at Anfield. Allen was watched by Liverpool scouts on numerous occasions last season and was linked with a move back in January.

Allen arrives despite an agreement between the two clubs following Rodgers’ arrival that Liverpool would not sign Swansea players for 12 months.

Allen told Liverpoolfc.com:

“I feel incredible. Everyone knows the history of this club, it’s a massive club, and I’m delighted to have joined.

“The passion that people here have for football is something I share and I want to be part of that.

“I’m looking forward to being part of some great years ahead for Liverpool Football Club.”

Allen will wear squad number 24 at Liverpool.

Welcome to Anfield, Joe.
