Liverpool hold Hearts to progress in Europa

Liverpool 1-1 Hearts (2-1 on aggregate)
Europa League Qualifier // Anfield // August 30th 2012

Liverpool came from behind to equalise against Hearts and progress to the group stages of the Europa League on Thursday night.

Luis Suarez’s late goal cancelled out David Templeton’s 85th minute goal. The Uruguayan saved keeper Pepe Reina who had fumbled Templeton’s shot from outside the box and spilled it into his own goal for a horrendous mistake.

Midst way through the game Liverpool and West Ham confirmed they had agreed a deal for Andy Carroll to join the Hammers on loan for the season.

Instead Brendan Rodgers gave a full debut to academy forward Adam Morgan, starting him as the right sided attacker with Suarez central and Jordan Henderson on the left.

Liverpool created many chances and dominated possession but Suarez was again wasteful in front of goal and could have had two in the space of two minutes in the second half before Hearts took a shock lead.

Suarez though made up for his lack of clinical finishing by hitting past the keeper at the Kop end with two minutes left, revealing a t-shirt in support of injured midfielder Lucas.

Liverpool will now enter the Europa League group stage draw on Friday – transfer deadline day. It promises to be an interesting one.
