Monday’s LFC Transfer Rumours: Dempsey deal off? Arsenal pip Reds to Sahin

Liverpool have not made a formal move for Fulham striker Clint Dempsey according to their manager Martin Jol.

Dempsey has handed in a transfer request at Craven Cottage and refused to play for the West London side, demanding a move away from the club.

The 29-year-old US international has been the subject of intense speculation linking him with a move to Anfield this summer, which included Liverpool’s owners accidentally announcing that he had signed on their website stateside.

However, Jol said there are currently no offers on the table for Dempsey and hopes to persuade the forward to stay.

Jol also defended Dempsey and thanked him for his hard work for the club after Fulham fans turned against him during their 5-0 defeat of Norwich on Saturday.

He added, “I don’t want to hear the fans chanting against him because he was a terrific player for us. He was the most productive midfield player in the whole league last season.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool look to have lost out on their attempts to sign Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin on loan for the season.

Sahin is set to sign a season long deal with Arsenal, with the temptation of Champions League football too great for the 23-year-old.

Sahin will be seen by Arsene Wenger as a replacement for the departing Alex Song, however, it could also open up the door to let Theo Walcott move to Liverpool.

And finally, a report in this morning’s Times newspaper suggests that Charlie Adam has been told to find a new club.

The Scottish midfielder played no part in Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat to West Brom on Sunday. However, it is understood he will attempt to stay and fight for his place.
