Nuri Sahin on verge of Liverpool move – medical Friday

Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Real Madrid winger Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan deal, with the Turkish international set for a medical on Merseyside on Friday.

Brendan Rodgers announced this evening, after Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Hearts in the Europa League, “Hopefully in the next 24 hours we’ll get some confirmation on that.

“It’s quite far [along the line]. He’s a very good footballer.”

The Guardian reports tonight that Sahin will arrive at Melwood to undergo a medical and complete the switch from the Spanish champions on Friday morning, whilst the Liverpool Echo‘s James Pearce tweeted:

@JamesPearceEcho #LFC now in pole position to sign Nuri Sahin on loan from Real Madrid. After this morning’s glimmer of hope, LFC much more positive.

Sahin will be a major coup for the Reds, who will see the 23-year-old as a first team player capable of both creating and scoring goals.

In addition, the loan deal will save the Reds money on a permanent transfer of a winger and may see the end to speculation linking Liverpool with Manchester City‘s Adam Johnson.

As we reported earlier today, Liverpool officials met with Sahin’s agent yesterday to tempt the player to Merseyside, rather than Arsenal – who had been set to land the exciting talent.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported the story earlier in the day, and some suggest that Liverpool could make an official announcement tonight (Thursday).
