Brendan Rodgers names Downing and Jose Enrique – so it could be either of them at left back, with the other supporting Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling in attack.
Jordan Henderson gets his first League start of the season, alongside Joe Allen and Steven Gerrard in midfield.
Andre Wisdom misses out through injury, as does Oussama Assaidi. Glen Johnson switches back to right back.
