Brendan Rodgers has today spoken with fan groups candidly and openly discussing his hopes for, plans for and commitment to Liverpool’s future. Of course one topic dominated proceedings and that is the January transfer window.
Rodgers revealed that in his perfect window he will be looking to add two or three goal scoring players to improve the frustratingly goal shy Liverpool attack.
He spoke at length about the type of mobile forward who we require, somebody who can get in and around the penalty area whilst Suarez floats and attacks from either the side or possibly even the number ten position using his creativity to unlock opposition defences.
Rodgers stressed how important young players are, not for recouping expenses by selling them on, as he stresses Liverpool are not a selling side, but as the long term service provided by bringing in young players is a huge bonus. However he would not rule out the option of bringing in older experienced players for the here and now either on loan or permanent deals if any become available. Something he was unconvinced on.
One interesting piece of information released was the hints towards plans for the summer. Rodgers was quite open that in January attackers would practically be his sole focus however he did hint there was need to strengthen at left back and that it was almost essential that a traditional creative number ten be brought in this coming summer to make us competitive for the here and now although he has high hopes for Suso in the future.
