Sturridge arrives to add some much-needed attacking options to Brendan Rodgers’ squad and is expected to be given opportunity in the central forward role he craves, meaning Luis Suarez will be used as a ‘number 10’ or as one of the wider forwards.

Sturridge, 23, has signed a four year deal, reportedly worth close to £60,000 per week.

He told the official LFC website:

“I am humbled and happy to be here. Brendan Rodgers said he sees me here for a long time – and I also see myself here for a long time. I’ve not signed here to play for a couple of years and then move on.

“I’ve signed to be here for as long as possible. It’s a humongous club – for me, one of the biggest in the world – and to have the fans and world-class players we have here is amazing.”

Sturridge, who will wear number 15, is not eligible to feature in the Europa League due to Chelsea dropping down to the competition after elimination from the Champions League.

Rodgers attempted to sign the England international on the final day of the summer transfer window but the player turned down a loan move, instead preferring a permanent transfer, which he has now got.

Sturridge signed for Chelsea from Man City in 2009, but enjoyed his most successful spell while on loan to Bolton in 2011 – scoring 8 goals in 12 appearances.

Sturridge won’t be available for tonight’s Premier League match with Sunderland at Anfield but could make his debut against Mansfield in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Welcome to Anfield, Daniel.
