Rodgers pleas for more players to make “exciting” next season

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has pleaded to the clubs owners to help him develop his squad further this summer, adding more players, as he anticipates a potential “exciting” next season.

The Reds have just one game left to play in the current campaign, at home to QPR on Sunday, May 19th.

Rodgers will lose leader and veteran defender Jamie Carragher to retirement this summer, forcing him to look for new strength in defensive qualities.

“I think we can have an exciting season next year,” Rodgers is quoted in today’s Independent as saying.

“We can build towards that. We need more depth, we need some more (players) in the summer.”

Liverpool marked their final away trip of the season with a 3-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday – Daniel Sturridge bagging a hat-trick.

However, with Italian forward Fabio Borini’s future on Merseyside unclear and a number of attackers and attack-minded midfielders linked with the club, Liverpool may also need to spend money to bolster their front line.

Rodgers added, “If we can do that we will be looking to make a real sustainable challenge next year for the top four.”
