Sunday’s LFC transfer rumours: The Great Suarez, Mkhitaryan, Cissokho Shambles

In the last few days, the Rumour Mill has gone from Liverpool being on the verge of signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan with Luis Suarez and Pepe Reina staying at Anfield, to the Reds having missed out on Mkhitaryan to Borussia Dortmund, and Suarez and Reina set to leave…

Newspapers

Very much a shambles you could say, but as our editor Matt Ladson said in an opinion piece this week:

Regardless, the point here is don’t make yourself look daft by believing every report you read and especially take into account where the report originates from. I very much doubt the Daily Star, a local London newspaper, or some bookmakers looking to get publicity have inside information where Suarez will be heading next.

So on that note, let’s see what’s making the Rumour Mill groan in distress today.

The Sunday People say Liverpool are getting closer to signing a new left back in Valencia’s Aly Cissokho.

Cissokho would provide some much needed competition for Jose Enrique on that left side, something Brendan Rodgers is keen to create by making his squad deeper this summer.

Dean Jones writes:

The defender’s Spanish club Valencia are having financial problems so Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is looking at a bid of around £4million.

Here’s out scouting report on Cissokho from earlier this year.

The Metro’s website this morning report both of the fresh Luis Suarez links this week – that Arsenal and Chelsea are supposedly monitoring his availability.

It’s a big shout to even suggest such a thing after Suarez’s rants about his unhappiness with the English media earlier this summer, but would be clubs that could hand him Champions League football on a plate.

Liverpool’s lacking of that golden cherry that UEFA’s elite football competition holds seems to be really hitting home right now.

Reports on Friday emerged that the Reds have lost out in the race for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who will sign for Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund.

Sky Germany gave Liverpool a faint flicker of hope in resurrecting a deal for the Armenian international on Saturday evening, reporting that the Reds had matched Dortmund’s bid.

But it’s either a complete mess, or anyone’s guess (we think both), as these tweets suggest:

Anyway, it’s sunny and hot outside, so we’re leaving these LFC transfer rumours inside to fester away by themselves. Get me an ice cream.
