Transfer Window Opens: Wigan want Spearing, no Sakho interest

The first day of the transfer window is open us! Liverpool have already secured the signings of four players and the next two months look set to be just as busy.

Yesterday, reports linked Liverpool with a move for PSG centre back Mamadou Sakho, but that has been quickly scuppered in The Liverpool Echo. They write that he is “not on the club’s wanted list”:

“the ECHO understands the club are not targeting the 23-year-old”

Meanwhile, they provide an update on another centre back, young Tiago Ilori of Sporting Lisbon:

Liverpool do remain in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon over the transfer of Tiago Ilori, although they had hoped a deal would have been finalised by now for the Portugal under-20s player.

The Echo’s report does not feature any mention of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, despite reports over the weekend from Eastern Europe heavily linking him with a £25m move to Anfield. Perhaps the lack of information being leaked to The Echo is actually more indicative that something is happening – we’ll soon know.

Elsewhere today, Wigan are linked with a move for midfielder Jay Spearing in the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have announced that new signing Luis Alberto will wear squad number 6. Purchase Alberto’s new shirt from the official LFC store here.
