UPDATE: Mamadou Sakho has in fact been named in Liverpool’s starting eleven, alongside Martin Skrtel – despite reports earlier today claiming he wasn’t even in the squad.
[table id=27 /]The 23-year-old French international signed for the club on the final day of the summer transfer window two weeks ago and was expected by many to make his debut at the Liberty Stadium this evening.
However, Brendan Rodgers has opted not to rush the former Paris Saint-Germain centre-back into the side, meaning fans are likely to see Martin Skrtel or Kolo Toure in defence tonight – possibly both.
The Independent report:
He may have been the most expensive defensive signing in Liverpool history, but £18m signing Mamadou Sakho can’t force his way into Brendan Rodgers’ side at the moment after being left at home for their away match against Swansea later tonight.
Over the weekend manager Brendan Rodgers had described Sakho as “an absolute monster in training”.
Liverpool’s defence are yet to concede a goal in the league this season, having won their opening three games.
The Reds go into tonight’s game knowing that victory will take them ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham and three points clear at the top of the Premier League.
With Luis Suarez still suspended, Victor Moses could make his debut for the team tonight after completing a season-loan loan move from Chelsea.
Swansea vs Liverpool gets underway at 8pm BST tonight and it’s live on Sky Sports in the UK. Read our match preview here.
