Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge step up their returns from injury

Steven Gerrard today returned to full training at Melwood, while Daniel Sturridge also stepped up his recovery.

Gerrard took part in training alongside those players who did not feature in Sunday’s match at Chelsea, while Sturridge worked with rehabilitation fitness coach Jordan Milsom.

On Gerrard, Brendan Rodgers explained at his pre-Hull press-conference, “Steven has joined back in training, so we’ll see how he is for Hull, and I would think that probably by the Stoke game [January 12] we’ll have a number of the others who’ll not be too far away.”

There is bad news for Rodgers with Joe Allen facing at least two weeks on the sidelines with an adductor strain, but Jordan Henderson should be fit for the New Year’s Day clash.

Mamadou Sakho’s hamstring strain is yet to be confirmed but he faces up to six weeks out.

“Joe will probably be a few weeks with an abductor strain,” Rodgers explained. “Sakho, we’re just waiting for confirmation on his hamstring strain. Glen Johnson came off [at Chelsea], but that was tactical and wasn’t injury enforced.”
