Superdeporte say Brendan Rodgers outright refused to allow Aspas to leave the club, just six months after the Spaniard signed from Celta Vigo.

Aspas’ career on Merseyside has had a rocky start, scoring once in just 11 appearances for the Reds. He also suffered a torn thigh muscle during training in October and sat out of action for two months.

The January transfer window closes at midnight on Friday, 31st January 2014.
