Do Liverpool’s players believe they will win the Premier League this season?

After massive victories over Arsenal and Fulham this week, Liverpool are being talked about as genuine title contenders for the Premier League crown this season — but do the players believe it themselves?

Results this week have kept Liverpool fourth in the league table, but they now sit just four points off league leaders Chelsea, with the Blues and third placed Manchester City still to come to Anfield before the end of the season.

With Chelsea, City and Arsenal all resuming Champions League action next week, many are looking towards Liverpool’s lack of European involvement as an advantage in the final 12 games of the league season.

But whilst fans start to believe, and the media start to talks about Liverpool as dark horses for the title race, how do the players see the rest of the season panning out?

Steven Gerrard, told the club’s official website.

We’re in the mix. It’s still early days, there’s a lot of football to be played and we’re not going to get carried away. But we are in good form. We feel as if we’re dark horses.

We just carry on playing and trying to win as many games as we can. We have the advantage, in a funny way, of no European football, because we have just got the league and FA Cup to focus on.

Jordan Henderson, via The Liverpool Echo.

We are quietly confident in every game we go into but we just have to keep doing what we’re doing and concentrate on ourselves.

We have been playing well of late and our confidence is flying. Everyone is playing their part. We will see where we end up at the end of the season.

All our focus is now on Arsenal as we know we’ve got a tough game coming up this weekend.

We’ve given ourselves a great platform to work off now.

For a local lad, not having a Premiership title for 18-20 years, it’s in my mind every day. We’re in that position now and it is doable with the games that they’ve got as well.

All the lads are just looking for the top four and if we’re in and around there with five games to go, maybe.

We’re just concentrating on trying to get top four, so anything above that would be great for us.

No-one’s expecting us to go and win that title, so the pressure is less on us than the other big teams around us.

Brendan Rodgers, via BBC Sport.

It’s still the other teams to lose. They’ve more points than us. We’ll just go into each game trying to improve on every facet of our game.

The players are doing magnificently at the moment and we’re certainly showing great signs of improvement. We’re trying to be the best we can be. There’re no limits to our ambition of trying to be the best.
