Robbie Fowler wants Cesc Fabregas at Liverpool but bid unlikely

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler believes Cesc Fabregas would be the perfect addition to Brendan Rodgers’ team this summer.

The Barcelona and Spain midfielder has been told he can leave the Camp Nou if the right bid comes in for him this summer.

He signed for the Catalan giants in 2011 after eight years at Arsenal, but is only 27 years old and Fowler thinks he fits the bill at Anfield.

“Fabregas is a player I’ve always liked,” Fowler told radio station talkSPORT. “When those kind of players become available you always want to sign them.

“Fabregas is a world-recognised player and he would suit the Liverpool system.”

However, a bid from Liverpool for Fabregas looks very unlikely, with interest continuing in Southampton captain Adam Lallana.

The Daily Mail wrote on Saturday that Liverpool were “leading the race” to sign Fabregas, but that report has been denied by Liverpool-based journalists, such as The Echo’s Neil Jones:

The Telegraph report on Tuesday that Fabregas is being lined up by Chelsea as Frank Lampard’s long-term replacement, whilst Manchester City and Man United are also said to be interested in the Spaniard’s signature.

Liverpool confirmed the £4 million signing of England striker Rickie Lambert on Monday to bolster their attacking options, and remain hopeful of signing Lallana.

The BBC reported on Monday night that Lallana has now told Southampton he wishes to leave St Mary’s, but an official transfer request is not thought to have been issued.
