Report: Liverpool’s Andre Wisdom will spend 2014/15 at West Brom

Liverpool will loan out defender Andre Wisdom for the 2014/15 season, according to the Sunday People.

Wisdom spent most of last season at Championship side Derby County and many expected him to return to Anfield to challenge for a first-team place.

But the 21-year-old looks set for a season at the Hawthorns, with Neil Moxley of the Sunday People writing:

Baggies moved for Wisdom after failing to lure Scotland international Alan Hutton from Aston Villa.

With Billy Jones joining Sunderland and Steven Reid making a switch to Burnley, West Brom were in dire need of cover on the right flank.

Wisdom looked to have a bright future at Anfield three seasons ago but has since slipped way down the pecking order.

What Moxley neglects to mention there is that Wisdom actually didn’t make his first Premier League start until two years ago, in the early months of Brendan Rodgers’ reign, and that was due to a shortage of options for the new manager. Wisdom was only 19 at the time.

Wisdom has made 22 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team and has often showed much promise for the future.

What is interesting is that Liverpool appear happy for Wisdom to continue at right-back, where he played for Derby last season, despite most observers anticipating a move to centre-back.

Meanwhile the Sunday People also report that Brendan Rodgers is on the verge of a six-player, £135 million spending spree after receiving “every penny of the £75million Liverpool bank for Luis Suarez.”

Having already signed Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can this summer, Benfica’s Lazar Markovic and Lille’s Divock Origi are expected to follow.
