The Reds were much improved in the second half and Rodgers admitted his side needed to up the tempo after a slower first half.
On the decision to rest Steven Gerrard, Rodgers admitted he was unaware it was 16 years since the captain made his debut until he saw the programme in the changing room.
“He’s at the point in his career where he’s not going to be playing every game” explained Rodgers.
“We can’t just be relying upon Steven in every game.”
