Michael Beale’s Liverpool U21s side will take to the United States this May, for two friendlies against Sacramento Republic FC.
Designed to provide the academy side with invaluable experience against the US side, as well as preparation for future tours with the first team.
Liverpool U21s’ first clash with Sacremento Republic will take place on May 21, at Bonney Field in Sacramento, California, kicking off at 7.30pm PDT (3.30am BST).
They will then travel to Reno, Nevada, to contest their second friendly at the Greater Nevada Field on May 25, kicking off at 7pm PDT (3am BST).
Speaking on the announcement of the tour, Liverpool academy director Alex Inglethorpe described it as a “wonderful opportunity.”
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our U21s to gain valuable experience competing against quality opposition in the USA,” he explained.
“The tour will also provide players and staff with a wonderful opportunity to meet the many Liverpool supporters in the USA ahead of the first team’s visit this summer.”
With the U21s tour taking place directly after the close of the 2015/16 campaign, it is unclear as to whether the likes of Sheyi Ojo and Brad Smith, staples of Klopp’s first-team squad, will travel.
