Reports: Celtic in talks with Andre Wisdom after Liverpool say no on Joe Gomez

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to take Reds full-back Andre Wisdom with him to new club Celtic, according to reports in Scotland.

The Scottish Daily Mail claims Celtic and Wisdom are in talks over a potential £3 million move, with Rodgers seeing him as someone who can help take the Scottish giants to the next level.

It’s reported that Celtic started negotiations with the 23-year-old on Saturday and carried them on until Sunday evening.

Wisdom was given his Liverpool debut by Rodgers back in 2012, against Young Boys in the Europa League – he also scored in that game – with the Ulsterman always an admirer of the full-back.

His career has stalled in recent times, however, and he spent last season on loan at Norwich City, where he only managed 14 appearances.

Jurgen Klopp seemingly doesn’t see him as part of his future plans, so a move away from Anfield would benefit both Wisdom and Liverpool.

The same cannot be said of Joe Gomez, however, with Celtic gaining little encouragement from a season-long loan bid for the highly-rated defender.

He is someone who Klopp appears to see more potential in, and it would be a huge surprise if he spent 2016/17 at another club.

Wisdom joined Liverpool back in 2008, at the age of 14, and impressed through the youth ranks, and at England youth level.

Capable of playing at either right-back or left-back, the youngster can also thrive in the centre of defence, and that is where Rodgers is thought to be keen on playing him.

The Englishman featured 22 times for Liverpool in total, with his solitary goal for the Reds coming in his aforementioned debut.

Wisdom was named on our recent list of 21 players who could leave the club this summer, which you can read here:
