Liverpool’s versatile defender Andre Wisdom has agreed a season-long loan deal with Austrian Bundesliga champions Red Bull Salzburg.
The 23-year-old found himself surplus to requirements under Jurgen Klopp this summer, and was widely tipped to leave the club on a permanent deal.
But after spells with Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and most recently Norwich City, the former Bradford City youth star is set for another temporary move to Salzburg.
According to widespread reports including the Liverpool Echo, Wisdom has agreed terms with the Austrian club, and will spend the 2016/17 campaign at the Red Bull Arena.
This move comes as something of a surprise, particularly given reported interest from former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, now at Celtic.
But moving to Austria presents a welcome change for Wisdom, who has seen his development stall in the Premier League.
Able to operate at both right-back and centre-back, Wisdom is likely to progress in the latter role in Salzburg, where he will be managed by Oscar Garcaa Junyent.
Liverpool have a former Salzburg star in their midst in Sadio Mane, and Klopp is clearly familiar with the workings of the Austrian Bundesliga, having tracked the Senegalese during his time with the club.
Wisdom will become the 11th Liverpool player to leave the club on loan this summer, following the likes of Danny Ward, Allan Rodrigues and Taiwo Awoniyi.
He is unlikely to be the last, either, with a busy final two days of the transfer window expected on Merseyside.
Mario Balotelli, Luis Alberto, Lazar Markovic and Tiago Ilori are among those expected to depart before 11pm on August 31, while the likes of Connor Randall and Cameron Brannagan could also leave on loan.
