Liverpool loanee Andre Wisdom celebrates Austrian Bundesliga title triumph

Liverpool loanee Andre Wisdom has become the club’s only title winner this season, sealing Austrian Bundesliga glory with Red Bull Salzburg.

Wisdom joined Salzburg on a season-long loan in August, and has established himself as a key player in Oscar Garcia’s defence.

With the Red Bulls storming the Austrian Bundesliga for the fourth consecutive season, their title success was a foregone conclusion, capped on Saturday afternoon.

Salzburg sealed a 1-0 win against Rapid Vienna, although Wisdom only made the bench.

Overall, it marks an impressive step for the 23-year-old, who has spent the past four seasons away from Liverpool on loan.

His first spell came with Derby County in the Championship, before campaigns with West Brom and Norwich City, with the latter proving a major disappointment.

Opting for a move to Salzburg, Wisdom took a bold step that few English players take, and his decision has been vindicated with a league winner’s medal.

Wisdom is due to return to Merseyside at the end of the season, but is unlikely to remain with Liverpool beyond the summer, with speculation mounting over a permanent move.

The Reds are said to value Wisdom at around £4 million, with Derby his most likely destination, though Salzburg are also interested in agreeing another loan.

Wisdom is one of Liverpool’s most successful loanees this season, with Jurgen Klopp seeing 16 players leave on a temporary basis.

Danny Ward helped seal Huddersfield Town’s place in the Championship playoffs.

Allan Rodrigues is finally enjoying regular game time with Hertha Berlin, who are likely to qualify for next season’s Europa League, with the Brazilian already in talks to stay another term.

Meanwhile, Mamadou Sakho has impressed at Crystal Palace, as has Ryan Kent at Barnsley and, before his season was ended with an ACL injury, so too did Adam Bogdan at Wigan Athletic.

Lazar Markovic is making waves at Hull City but, like Pedro Chirivella with Go Ahead Eagles and Taiwo Awoniyi at NEC Nijmegen, could suffer relegation this season.

Ryan Fulton (Chesterfield) and Lloyd Jones (Swindon Town) have already seen their sides drop out of League One, with the latter sent home early following his arrest for an alleged assault.

Sam Hart also saw his spell with Port Vale terminated back in January, while Jon Flanagan has spent much of the season on the bench at Burnley.
