Video: Liverpool’s top 10 best opening-day games in the Premier League era

Liverpool begin 2017/18 away to Watford on Saturday, looking to continue a long line of impressive opening-day displays in the Premier League.

The Reds take to Vicarage Road in search of their first three points of the season, as they embark on a campaign that will see them fight on four fronts.

Sidetracked by speculation over Philippe Coutinho‘s future and so-far failed pursuits of Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita, the importance of Liverpool sealing a win is paramount.

And Jurgen Klopp‘s side can look to the past for inspiration, with the club counting down their 10 best opening-day games since the Premier League began in 1992.

Unsurprisingly, last season’s 4-3 victory away to Arsenal takes the top spot, but the list is littered with shining displays.

Those include the 2-1 win over West Ham in 2001, the 2-1 victory at home to Southampton in 2014 and the Fernando Torres-led 1-0 win at Sunderland in 2008.

Missing a clutch of his key players, including the ‘injured’ Coutinho, Klopp has his work cut out for him in Hertfordshire.

But with the quality of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino at his disposal, he will be hoping for another triumphant season opener nonetheless.
