Following the big breaking news surrounding Virgil van Dijk‘s £75 million move to Liverpool, supporters have reacted in delighted fashion.
Just as we were all sat around contemplating our horrendous food and alcohol intake over Christmas, a truly significant story broke on Wednesday.
Liverpool have confirmed Van Dijk as their first signing of the January transfer window, with the fee believed to be rising to £75 million.
The Reds tried their best to get a deal over the line prior to deadline day, having previously been forced to end their interest after Jurgen Klopp had met the Dutchman before contact had been made with Southampton.
Here’s how Liverpool supporters have reacted to the news, as the Reds potentially close in on one of their most significant signings in years…

Big fee for a big big defender. Buzzing with this. Not only does van Dijk bring his defensive qualities. But he's a leader at the back. Haven't had that in a long time.

Realistically, VVD is the best CB LFC could’ve signed. Only the the elite, unattainable players are above him. Likewise with Keita. Klopp not settling for second best, whilst annoying in the interim, is admirable. He’s here long term, and won’t look for the quick fix

‘FSG out! They don’t spend!’
‘£75m is too much for VVD!’
Make your minds up FFS.
He’s our future captain and miles better than what we have. #LFC

Just can't wait to FINALLY have one of the better defenders from the Netherlands/Eredivisie join #LFC.
Missed Vertonghen, Alderweireld, de Vrij and Sanchez, among others.

Finally, Liverpool doing business like a proper big club. Arsed about what they cost, just get the best players in.

Not fussed about the potential fee for Van Dijk.; it acts as proof that FSG are willing to back Klopp to the hilt – something that we've all been calling for for a very long time.

IF Liverpool get a deal done for Van Dijk, it will be their most significant signing for a long, long time.
Sure, he might not be a world-beater from minute one, as he adjusts to life under Klopp, but he's a magnificent player. Very exciting.

I see from all the Manchester United fans tweeting that Liverpool have signed someone…

“£75m is a ridiculous sum of money, but it shows we’re serious about investing big money…great news, seriously hope he’s worth it!”

Any second now, Sky Sources are going to report that Liverpool have agreed a world-record £75m fee for Virgil van Dijk.

Thoughts on #vvd? He's head has clearly been elsewhere this season but stats suggest he's world class. #lfc

Nope, not believing this yet.

Shame Fraser Forster is absolutely shite or we could have took Southampton's goalie off them too.
— Ste Hoare (@stehoare) December 27, 2017
If signing Van Dijk means that Dejan Lovren never partners Joel Matip in central defence ever again then £75m is a bargain.
