Nike advertise Philippe Coutinho as a Barcelona player

Kit manufacturer Nike have named Philippe Coutinho as a Barcelona player on their retail websites.

Nike updated their website overnight with a heading of “Where the magic happens” alongside text claiming “Philippe Coutinho is ready to light up Camp Nou” and a link to “Shop Coutinho’s look.”

The update appeared on several different language versions of their website, including English, Spanish, Portuguese and German.

The page it linked to was, however, a dead link, and the text has quickly been removed.

That it appeared across various language sites points at it being more than a prank or hack.

It could be that an employee mistakenly used copy from the summer, when Barcelona and Nike were expecting Coutinho to sign for the Spanish side.

But whatever the reason, it’s high time Liverpool reported Barcelona over their antics over Coutinho.

With Atletico Madrid already reporting them to FIFA for an illegal approach for Antoine Griezmann, Barcelona would likely face a transfer ban as a result.

Some may say this is ‘no smoke without fire’ but it’s more than likely very ‘much ado about nothing.’
