Liverpool were drawn against Man City in the Champions League quarter-finals on Friday, and fans have been left excited by the news.
Jurgen Klopp and his players have been waiting with bated breath to hear who they will face next month, and all has now been revealed.
Runaway Premier League leaders City stand between the Reds and a place in the semi-finals for the first time in 2007/08, with the first leg taking place at Anfield on April 4, and the return fixture being played at the Etihad on April 10.
It is a mouthwatering contest between two of Europe’s most aesthetically-pleasing teams, and is the first ever Champions League meeting between the English pair.
Elsewhere, Barcelona play Roma, Sevilla face Bayern Munich, and Juventus and Real Madrid do battle in a repeat of last season’s final.
Here’s how supporters reacted to the draw on social media.
Some were looking on the optimistic side…
Sound. Bring them on.

They're scared of us, make no bones about it.Yes they're a wonderful team and definite favourites to progress, but we can beat them.
— Henry Jackson (@HenryJackson87) March 16, 2018
No one wanted City.
But atleast we know how to beat them.
Up the Reds.— Taintless Red (@TaintlessRed) March 16, 2018
The weather in Madrid and Barcelona is much nicer in May.
— Phil Blundell (@PhilBlundell) March 16, 2018
At the end of the day we're in it to win it. We can beat any team on our day. Bring City on.

IF Liverpool get past City, then I fear nobody

“Rather play them now while there trying to wrap up the league, the chances are if we beat another team we would meet City anyway. Bring it on.”
– David Crickit Dolan on Facebook.

Beating City 3 times this season eh
— Nick ?????? (@nckwtsn) March 16, 2018
If you think City will knock us out then do one off my TL, we are Liverpool, Up the Reds.

Worth noting that the last time #LFC won the Champions League we had to beat the runaway league leaders over two legs in the knockout stages.

Despite the intimidating atmosphere I reckon City could've done a lot of damage at Anfield for the 2nd leg. Think we can do likewise at the Etihad. #LFC @AnfieldIndexPro pic.twitter.com/VwKx6uhTv4

Remember this Quarter Final against an English team?https://t.co/9JBMlTbJFF

And others were more pessimistic…
As bad as it could have got that. Man City. Home first. All the other top teams kept away from each other. Still. Nice to see Totti looking well
— John Gibbons (@johngibbonsblog) March 16, 2018
Really wanted a team from outside of theses shores. Didn't really care who tbh but a proper European away would have been great.
— Ian Ryan (@Ian1892T) March 16, 2018
Zzzzz. Man City, at home in the first leg. ?
— Jack Lusby (@jacklusby_) March 16, 2018
Would have loved that draw if we were home in the 2nd leg

“That was my No.1 worst draw & bloody home leg first as well.”
– Ian Smith on Facebook.
Liverpool can beat Man City over two legs but facing a fellow English side in the Champions League is so uninspiring. Ah well.
— Sachin Nakrani (@SachinNakrani) March 16, 2018
So I'd suggest that's the worst possible draw Liverpool could have got. Home in the first leg and against Man City. Massive game
— Karl Matchett (@karlmatchett) March 16, 2018
Naf draw for #LFC, English opponents and 2nd leg at #MCFC – all a bit meh.
Not arsed that they'll be clear favourites, chance to remedy league match at their gaf, still haunts our Sadio that.
— Eddie Gibbs (@eddiegibbs) March 16, 2018
#lfc have been beaten by Man City once in their past five meetings. Three wins, one draw.
— Dave Phillips (@lovefutebol) March 16, 2018
Urgh..
— Chris Williams (@Chris78Williams) March 16, 2018
For what it’s worth, I think we would’ve been right up there with the teams that Pep would’ve wanted to avoid. Bad draw for both sides imo.
