Liverpool midfielder James Milner nominated for Champions League award

Liverpool sealed passage to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 5-0 aggregate win over Porto and James Milner has been highlighted by UEFA for his performance.

One of the handful of impressive performers on the night of the second leg at Anfield, Milner ran the show in midfield with an industrious and intelligent display.

The former Leeds and Manchester City man has been hugely influential in the Reds’ European campaign, claiming more assists than anyone else in this season’s Champions League.

While he didn’t add to his tally of six in midweek, as Liverpool and Porto played out a 0-0 draw, he still did enough to warrant being picked by UEFA as one of the top performers in the round of 16.

Milner is one of four players up for Player of the Week award, along with Gonzalo Higuain of Juventus, Man City‘s Leroy Sane and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

It’s heady company for Milner to keep, but he could be up against any of them in the next round as the Reds await their quarter-final fate.

Fans can vote for the winner of the award here.

At the time of writing, Cristiano Ronaldo leads the poll, with Milner in second place.
