Liverpool step up Nabil Fekir chase as Reds seek deal before World Cup

Liverpool are aiming to complete the signing of French attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir before the World Cup starts.

Jurgen Klopp is always keen to get new signings through the door early and that will be the case again this summer.

In his two previous seasons, only one signing has been made in August – that being Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on deadline day last year.

With Naby Keita and Fabinho already signed up, the Reds now want Fekir to continue Klopp’s midfield revolution.

Reports in France on Wednesday night claimed a £53 million (€60m) bid from Liverpool, with Lyon said to be wanting nearer €70m.

However, the Mirror‘s David Maddock denied such a bid has been placed, but that the player has indicated his desire to move to Merseyside.

Maddock writes that sporting director Michael Edwards will seek formal negotiations this week, with a deal wanting to be concluded before the World Cup starts in a fortnight.

The versatile 24-year-old attacker would be another headline signing for Klopp’s side, able to play as the No.10 or on the right of attack.

He scored 23 goals and assisted eight in 40 games for Lyon last season.

Earlier this week it was claimed that Liverpool will conclude the signing at least one more player this week.

Exciting times at Anfield.
