Liverpool players continue season preparations with 11 vs. 11 training game

Those Liverpool players who didn’t start against West Ham on Sunday took part in an 11 vs. 11 training match at Melwood on Wednesday.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge enjoyed lively cameos against the Hammers, with Sturridge scoring within seconds of his arrival, and they were in the same lineup as Jurgen Klopp builds up the fitness of his squad ahead of the season.

New signing Fabinho, an unused sub on Sunday, also lined up in the strongest XI of the two, while Joel Matip made his return after injury.

Captain Jordan Henderson also lined up for the ‘home’ side – who played against a team made up of fringe players who could yet leave the club before the European transfer window closes, plus several youngsters from the Reds’ Under-23s.

Conor Masterson, Adam Lewis, Corey Whelan, George Johnston, Matty Virtue, Curtis Jones and Isaac Christie-Davies all played for the ‘away’ side – they will be in action for the U23s’ opening home game of the season against Tottenham at Anfield on Friday night.

The youngsters were joined by Simon Mignolet, Pedro Chirivella, Marko Grujic Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi – all available at the right price over the next fortnight.

The training match was 60 minutes, with Shaqiri, Sturridge, Dominic Solanke and Adam Lallana giving the first XI a comfortable 5-0 win.
