Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo nearing season loan move to France

Sheyi Ojo has been reliably linked with a surprise move abroad this week, as the end of the European transfer window edges closer.

Ojo is one of many Liverpool players Jurgen Klopp has been willing to offload this summer, albeit temporarily rather than on a permanent basis.

It is clear that first-team opportunities will be extremely hard to come by for the young winger this season, given the quality and experience ahead of him in the attacking pecking order.

The 21-year-old has been linked with several Championship clubs in recent weeks, most notably Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, but a more interesting move could come to fruition.

Both the TimesPaul Joyce and the Guardian‘s Andy Hunter report that Ojo is interested in a season-long loan switch to French outfit Reims.

The Ligue 1 club currently lie sixth in the table, having collected six points from their opening three matches in 2018/19.

It is a piece of transfer news that has appeared out of nowhere, but if it comes to fruition, it could be a great experience for Ojo.

Young players can grow as individuals by moving abroad, with Ryan Kent‘s spell at Freiburg last season likely to benefit him in the long run.

Ojo has until Friday (August 31) to get a deal over the line, with regular football so important in terms of his progression as a player.

Staying at Anfield and playing for the U23s will only hinder his development, with the Englishman now at a point where he needs to kick on.

He spent last season on loan at Fulham, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League, and has also represented Wolves and Wigan Athletic in recent seasons.

Thirteen Liverpool appearances have come Ojo’s way, with his only goal for the Reds coming in a 3-0 win over Exeter City in 2016.
