Jurgen Klopp has made five changes to his Liverpool side for tonight’s Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade. Here’s all the team news you need to know.
Twelve games into the season, the Reds have lost just twice, winning eight, but one of those defeats came last time in the Champions League, at the hands of Napoli.
This mounts pressure on Klopp’s side to secure a victory over Red Star at Anfield, and the manager was restricted further by a host of injuries.
Nevertheless, Klopp has named an impressive side for Liverpool’s third game of Group C, as Alisson makes his 12th outing of the season so far.
Ahead of the Brazilian in defence is Trent Alexander-Arnold, making his 55th senior outing since his debut against Tottenham, one day shy of two years ago.
He joins Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson at the back after a two-game absence.
Van Dijk wears the captain’s armband in the absence of Jordan Henderson and James Milner.
In midfield, Fabinho makes only his second start since joining from Monaco in the summer, with the No. 3 hailed by Klopp in the buildup as a “fantastic addition.”
Alongside Fabinho are Gini Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri, while Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all start in attack.
Among Klopp’s substitutes are Milner and Daniel Sturridge, as the Reds look to keep up the pace with Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain as the group’s front-runners.
