Good and bad news for Liverpool with fresh injury on Monday

Liverpool have been dealt another injury during the international break, with forward Sadio Mane joining Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah on the casualty list.

Mane has suffered a hand injury while with Senegal, but thankfully it appears to only be minor and it doesn’t necessarily rule him out of Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield.

And while news of Mane’s injury is not the best, Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Virgil van Dijk will be fit for Liverpool when they travel to Yorkshire.

The Reds’ centre-back scored and impressed in a 3-0 win for the Dutch over Germany last week, but has returned to Merseyside early as he is still suffering the effects of the rib injury he’s had in recent weeks.

Koeman explained that it had already been agreed to rest Van Dijk against Belgium on Tuesday.

There is less news on Salah’s injury, but the Egyptian has returned to Merseyside with a muscle problem that is yet to be confirmed. Some reports have suggested it’s a recurrence of a groin issue he had in April.

So of the three international injuries, Salah’s appears to be the most serious and makes him a doubt for the Reds’ Premier League match this weekend.

If Salah isn’t fit, Xherdan Shaqiri should get his second league start for the club.
