Alisson points to Liverpool’s mental strength as critical factor in trophy chase

Alisson has paid tribute to the mental strength of the Liverpool team and says that has been key to the assault on two trophy fronts this season.

The Reds haven’t lost a match in any competition since January, while a recent run of victories has continually seen them leapfrog Man City at the top of the Premier League table.

That same ability to grind out wins under pressure will be needed for the remainder of the season run-in, both in domestic games and in the Champions League.

The Reds face Barcelona in the semi-final and Alisson, whose old team Roma beat last term in the quarters in such spectacular fashion, knows that all of his current side’s best traits will be needed to repeat the trick.

Indeed, the goalkeeper told LiverpoolFC.com that the team’s strengths were not just in their skill level, but in their individual and collective mindset.

“Mentally we are a very strong team. In every game every player gives 100 per cent and also gives 100 per cent concentration, desire and determination so the technical quality of the players can stand out.

“I believe that every player has taken their responsibility to get us to where we are now: fighting for two titles.

“Now that we’re so close, everything we do needs to be perfect and [we need to] win all the remaining games.

Looking ahead to those upcoming fixtures which will dictate just how the Reds’ season is remembered, Alisson swatted aside any notion of Cardiff being an easy opponent.

Battling against relegation, every game and every point counts just as much for the Bluebirds as it does for the Reds and the keeper is in no doubt of just how hard the game will be.

“They’ve got their important objectives and we’ve got ours, so both sides will really be fighting.

“They’ll be highly focused, they’ll have the fans on their side, which is important at a time like this, but we have to handle the conditions there and win.

“It’s what we want and it’s what we’re going to fight for.”

Alisson also had words of praise for Joe Gomez, a “10 out of 10 guy” in the Brazilian’s own words, after the young defender returned from injury.
