Sheyi Ojo becomes latest Liverpool player to join Steven Gerrard’s Rangers

Sheyi Ojo is heading to Ibrox as the third Liverpool player to join Steven Gerrard‘s Rangers on loan.

Ojo spent the 2018/19 campaign with Stade de Reims in Ligue 1, but injury problems and competition for places limited the 21-year-old to 18 appearances for their first team.

Only six of those came as starts, with the last in the league coming in a 0-0 draw with Marseille in December, and though his decision to move to France was admirable he likely didn’t receive the exposure he had hoped for.

Turning 22 later this month, Ojo needed to make the right decision this summer having clearly fallen out of favour under Jurgen Klopp, who fielded him 13 times in 2016 and 2017.

He will hopefully have done so as he follows in the footsteps of fellow academy talents Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent in making the move to Rangers.

Both clubs have confirmed the deal, with Ojo reportedly agreeing a new five-year deal with Liverpool before joining Gerrard’s side for the season.

Kent saw his stock rise dramatically as he scored six goals and laid on nine assists in 43 games for Rangers last term, winning the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award, as well as being named in their Team of the Year.

While there is a possibility he rejoins Rangers this summer, Kent’s price tag is believed to have risen to up to £12 million due to his displays in Glasgow.

Ojo can hope to do the same under Gerrard, revitalising a young career that has seen him take in loan spells with Wigan, Wolves, Fulham and Reims.

The youngster joined Liverpool from MK Dons as a 14-year-old in 2011, for a reported fee of around £2 million.

Good luck at Rangers, Sheyi!
