Photos: Liverpool train in Istanbul ahead of Super Cup but Naby Keita walks off injured

Jurgen Klopp has led the Liverpool squad through training at Besiktas Park ahead of Wednesday’s Super Cup fixture against Chelsea.

The second of seven trophy opportunities for the season arises in Istanbul this midweek, with the Champions League holders set to face the Europa League winners.

Liverpool were defeated on penalties by Man City in the Community Shield, but opened their league campaign with a 4-1 battering of Norwich—while Chelsea were pummeled 4-0 by Man United.

There will be at least a couple of changes from that first league game, though, with Jurgen Klopp forced into one switch and likely to make others.

That first change, of course, will come in goal; Alisson‘s injury means new signing Adrian will make his full debut, hoping to add a Pegguy Arphexad-style one start, one trophy to his CV.

Klopp will have decisions to make in attack, though, as Sadio Mane has returned and is tipped to start.

Whose place he takes is up for debate; Divock Origi has started the season brightly and scored against Norwich, while Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino both had shortened pre-seasons but look in great form.

One further decision will be whether to stick with the back four which has played so far, or whether Joel Matip will challenge Joe Gomez for a place as Virgil van Dijk‘s partner in the centre.

All told, the Reds have a squad of 23 available for action on Wednesday night, with 12 subs named for the Super Cup. And the entire squad looked to be in fine spirits, as the great camaraderie within the group was on show once more.

But the single disappointment ahead of the final was that midfielder Naby Keita left the pitch early, heading down the tunnel as a potential injury worry for the Reds.

Liverpool have great memories of being in Istanbul, of course, but now it’s time to create new memories and put a new trophy in the Anfield museum, as the Reds look to continue a positive start to the 19/20 season.
