Liverpool thumped Norwich 4-1 at Anfield on Friday night, getting their 2019/20 Premier League season off to a flying start.

After over two months without real football, it returned with a bang.

The Kop welcomed back the European Champions, with a new addition to the immortals banner and mosaic pre-match to commemorate ‘number 6’. ‘Please welcome the Champions of Europe’ announced the tannoy as the teams arrived on the pitch.

Mohamed Salah opened his account for the campaign in inch-perfect fashion, linking sublimely with Man of the Match Roberto Firmino.

Virgil van Dijk headed home Andy Robertson‘s corner to make it 3-0, but Alisson‘s calf injury forced him off in the first half, causing obvious concern.

The injury did at least give Adrian a surprise debut, though – making his first Premier League appearance since May 2018.

There was still time for Divock Origi to add a fourth before half-time, finding the net from a beautiful Trent Alexander-Arnold cross, as Liverpool delivered a first half masterclass.

After the break, things were far more low-key, with Teemu Pukki pulling a deserved goal back for the talented visitors.

The sight of Sadio Mane returning to action was the highlight of the second half.

Next up for Liverpool is Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Chelsea in Istanbul, as the Reds look to win their first ‘trophy’ of the season.
