Confirmed Liverpool lineup vs. Everton: Shaqiri starts as Klopp makes 5 changes

Jurgen Klopp has made five changes to his lineup for the 234th Merseyside derby tonight, as Liverpool host Everton in the Premier League.

One of those comes as Adrian replaces the suspended Alisson, following the Brazilian’s red card in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Brighton.

All of Klopp’s back line from that afternoon are retained, with Trent Alexander-Arnold starting at right-back, Dejan Lovren and Virgil van Dijk at centre-back and Andy Robertson at left-back.

In midfield, Gini Wijnaldum looks set to fill in for the injured Fabinho, and is joined by James Milner and Adam Lallana.

And as the manager seeks his 100th win in the English top flight, Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi and Sadio Mane start in a much-changed attack.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are included on the bench, with a mixed Liverpool XI seeking a 14th league victory of the campaign.

They face off against an Everton outfit lacking form and confidence, sitting 17th in the table heading into the midweek fixtures and with just one win in their last five league games.

However, speaking before the game, Klopp stressed that the Reds’ city rivals cannot be expected to roll over.

“Are we in a better moment in the league table? Yes,” he said.

“But the stats from my point of view help Everton rather than us; they want to strike back, they want to show they can do it differently, they can sort a lot of problems in one game.

“Everybody thinks there is no doubt about this team, how much they are connected to the club, and when you are then this is a game that whichever situation you are in, you want to win.”
