Wigan 0-4 Liverpool

Liverpool notched up their ninth goal in two games as they swept aside Wigan Athletic 4-0 at the DW Stadium on Saturday evening to keep up the chase for European places with ten games of the season to go.

Stewart Downing opened the scoring for the Reds inside three minutes when Philippe Coutinho‘s cross met the winger unmarked in the center. Downing leapt to head in a rare aerial goal in another great performance for the number 19.

Luis Suarez then bagged a hat-trick with two clinical finishes in front of goal and a double slice of luck when his free-kick was deflected twice to sneak in.

The traveling Kop had a party with Philippe Countinho’s name being sung, along with a chorus of support for under-fire former boss Rafa Benitez, now at Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers‘ men now face Tottenham at home next Sunday afternoon at Anfield – a win could see them go level on points with sixth placed Everton, who are in FA Cup action.

Good performance again lads! Great football…need a big result against Spurs next week! We owe them a good hiding! If we can beat them ive a strong feeling we will go undefeated for the rest of the season!

Countinho has settled into the PL so fast, players coming in from abroad usually take 6-12 months before we really see what the player can do, just like Sturridge it’s as if he’s been playing with his new teammates for sometime, we’re playing some great attacking football right now, although if it we’re not for Reina then the game may not have been so easy.

My only grumble is that at 0-4 up we did not take the opportunity to give Gerrard and/or Suarez and/or Lucas some rest, but it’s still an excellent result, the match against Spurs next Sunday is huge, depending on the result against Arsenal we could pull within 6 points of them, I’m not saying CL here we come, but if we’re to get in there for next season the remaning games are all MUST WINS.

Smashing result, hopefully suarez get the golden boot and player of the year, it will be a nice kick in the teeth for the FA scums.
Only one comment so far, wonder if certain people could really appreciate what the team has done, or they simply just want BR out and can no longer celebrate when LFC wins, which is….pathetic.

dear munyuktae, I used to celebrate when Liverpool were winning leagues and cups. This year was also ready to celebrate if Liverpool qualified for CL. I am happy we won yesterday with a convincing result, but to celebrate is a bit asking too much!!! There is very little to celebrate this season!!!!

what did I tell ya’ lads!!? we have to keep calm I know but its a very good way to get on the way .. next weekend its crucial, and everygame ’til the end of the season, for the abroad fans lets send all the good vibe to Anfield and for the home fans tear up the place like the team deserves! Coutinho was absolut class! and as usual Suarez unbelieveable .. YNWA!

Next Match is a must win. Not for the sake of top 4/Top6 but we haven’t won 3 PL games/4 games in a row the entire season.

It put a big smile on my face when I heard out fans sing the Rafa song! YNWA

Suarez is the only reason we are not in the bottom ten. Coutinho and Sturridge seem to be good buys. Allen showed again that we simply threw 15m out of the window start of the season. Also, lets hope the rumours that Shelvey is out for around 7m are true. Sterling will get better each season. Lets not forget he got a lot of playing time considering he is only just a teenager. ohhh….. was about to forget…. if Suzrez leaves end of this season we might as well close all curtains of hope for the next 10 years.

At last we are seeing some signs of progress – second successive big win and third win in a row, which for this season constitutes a good run of form

Good seeing Courtinho developing a good understanding with his teammates and not being bullied off the ball, good seeing Reina back to his shot-stopping best, and what move can be said about the brilliant Suarez

We need a really strong finish to convince him that we are a team on the up. I really feel him going will kill this team

Good win against average opponents, the Spurs match is the benchmark to assess whether we are improving or can we still only defeat the minnows, I wouldn,t get carried away with this result, only for the brilliance of Suarez at one end and Reina at the other things could have been a lot different
