Jurgen Klopp has made 11 changes to the Liverpool lineup that drew 2-2 with Exeter City for Wednesday night’s clash with Arsenal.

After naming an inexperienced side for Friday night’s FA Cup tie away to Exeter, Klopp has rung the changes on the Reds’ return to the Premier League.

This includes a starting role for Jordan Henderson, returning from a heel injury to captain his side.

Replacing the shaky Adam Bogdan in goal is Simon Mignolet, with the Belgian reverting to his role as Klopp’s first choice, having provisionally agreed a new five-and-a-half year contract.

Ahead of Mignolet, a back four of Nathaniel Clyne, Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Alberto Moreno provide Liverpool with a welcome resolve in defence.

Sakho was struggling with a knee injury in the buildup to this Anfield encounter but was deemed fit to start, having been determined to feature.

Joining Henderson in midfield are James Milner and Emre Can, with the latter having celebrated his 22nd birthday on Tuesday.

Jordon Ibe also makes his return from injury as part of a fluid forward three that also includes Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino.

New signing Steven Caulker has to make do with a place on Klopp’s substitutes’ bench, but provides ample cover at centre-back, with question marks over the fitness of both Toure and Sakho.

Caulker will make himself comfortable alongside returning loanee Danny Ward, Brad Smith, Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen, Joao Carlos Teixeira and Christian Benteke.

Taking on a strong Arsenal side, Klopp will be hoping his reinvigorated Reds can claim another big win over their top-four rivals, having already vanquished Chelsea, Manchester City and Leicester City in his three months on Merseyside.

  1. Sakho was struggling with a knee injury in the buildup to this Anfield encounter but was deemed fit to start, having been determined to feature.

The excuses for this lad are already in place lets hope they are not needed
    come on you mighty reds

  2. Disappointed Allen didnt start. Think his Stoke performance warranted a start. Also, worried about Sakho and Hendo, hopefully they havent been rushed back from injury. But, the teams looks alright and this is the time for Firmino and Lallana to deliver.

  3. Like this team. Plenty of energy and running. Arsenal are going to have a game on their hands. Anyone else feeling a Liverpool win cos I am!!

  4. Quite happy with this lineup. glad to see the fluid front three instead of benteke. also good to have sakho and henderson back

  5. I don’t see many goals in that line up, that’s our big problem.
Hopefully we will see something like the City game from those front three

  6. Ahhh Firmino up front again, the worst player i seen in red in a long time, on what basis should he play over Benteke who is our top scorer, and dont give me this movement bull because Firmino does NOTHING, has been a 1 out of 10 in every game bar City away.. he has 1 goal in 17 matches or something.. hope for a nill all i suppose but with Kolo at the back i doubt that will happen

      • Ahh the movement spiel! he does nothing i dont care how much he moves! shocking finisher.. im obviously hoping for a win but the wind has been taken out of by sails with that dud playing up top

        • I honestly believe Benteke has the ability to change the game off the bench. Of all the goals he has scored, most of them have come off the bench. For some reason, he seems more sluggish when he starts.

      • He moves but does nothing when he get the ball, Benteke has done more then Firmino and deserved to play ahead of him. even though i dont rate Benteke either! at least he has half a chance of scoring a goal

    • 2 years ago the same could be said for Ozil, who is now the best player in the league or one of the best……patience my man, patience. Klopp knows better than any of us……..

    • it’s no coincidence that we always play better with the fluid 3, without benteke. even if he does score a few goals, benteke doesn’t bring anything out of our other players

    • Firmino’s runs and fluidity of his play goes well with Lallana and Ibe as it creates space for them to have a go at Arsenal and create dynamic play. Although Benteke has scored the most goals he hasn’t shown anything to prove a starting spot especially the game against Exeter. Overall Firmino as of right now has shown potential and today could be the day where it comes to fruition.

      • All Firmino has shown so far is that he could be a bigger waste of money than Lallana. How you fans can criticize Benteke and give Firmino a free pass I’ll never know, both have been poor for Liverpool but at least Benteke is a natural striker.

    • I am with you on this 1 mate, i would rather have Sinclair in the team over Firmino, he has done nothing to be in this squad, worst than Ballo, 0 assist, 1 goal

    • Firmino is a poor choice for the role of lone striker. I gave Rodgers a lot of stick for playing players out of position so I have to be consistent here and argue that Klopp has it wrong. Yes Benteke is in poor form but so is Firmino, I’d take a natural striker over a makeshift striker every day.

      • We have looked our best against top team with the false 9 formation and won against City and Chelsea on the basis of those performances. Same case more or less with Stoke as well..

        • All I see is a team set up to not lose rather than a team set up to win. For me that’s acceptable at the Etihad but not at Anfield.

          • Benteke will come on as second half sub…so I think you’ll get your wish there. With Tekkers starting though we start off slow. As for the setup to not lose I have no idea what you’re talking about…LFC haven’t parked the bus against top teams under Klopp thus far. Doing so wouldn’t help either.

          • Ibe, Lallana scored in league cup and Europa League though…should we just discount those goals? I agree it’s unchartered territory but this is the best we can do with at this moment…so what’s the point of moaning about it?

    • Poulsen, Diouf, Aquilani, Benteke, Lallana, Allen, Konchensky, Carroll, Adam, Downing, Johnson, Enrique… And your taking on Firmino who’s just been here HALF SEASON!!! PISS OFF

      • I said a long time not of all time ya clown, and the only players you can compare is Benteke and Carroll, the others are not in the same ridiculous fee bracket so less is expected. and Benteke and Carroll did more in their 1st 17 then Firmino, not hard i know considering hes done NOTHING!!!

        • Firmino is a CAM NOT A STRIKER!!!! HE’S BEHIND OZIL IN ASSISTENCES, BENTEKE NEED TO MAKE GOALS AND HE COULDN’T EVEN DO THAT AGAINST A LEAGUE ONE SIDE TEAM, Firmino plays as KLOPP LIKES IT: With movement and pace and good passes, Benteke is a statue who can’t play with his teammates and offers next to nothing on creating goal opportunitys, he always loses the ball and the goals he did against LEicester and Sunderland were coming from the bench and yeah he got pretty lucky on those

  7. We should be winning this, at least in the midfield with all our energy!
If its anything, we can definitely beat Arsenal in terms of hard graft and effort.

  8. Yesss! Nice line-up…Sakho starts, Hendo starts, Firmino in false 9 position…best possible line-up…cmon boys!

    • Yes, best possible.. Didn’t know Ibe’s available.. Nice to see Teixeira on the bench, he’s coming in for sure.. We can win this game..

    • yeah , as solid as we could have hoped for really. Good to have some up and coming kids on the bench also. Im less worried about this match now having seen that lineup – no doubt this is a very difficult match , but I know believe we can give it ago with this team.

    • Cmon with the negativity…our last match with them was 0-0. The idea is to first win that tactical battle…only then can other things follow.

      • That front 3 have one league goal between them all season, Benteke has 6 times that amount. I’m not optimistic or impressed and I won’t hide it either.

        • Perhaps Klopp is thinking that the pace and movement of Firmino could be useful against Mertesacker, whereas Mertesacker has the height and reading of the game to deal with a Benteke?

        • You have to think about the greater good though, Benteke has started only 1 game in which LFC scored more than 1 goal. In that game he had 6 shots without getting even 1 on target. The team just performs better without him. Look at our best wins this season, there’s a common thread running through them and it’s not Tekkers starting.

    • Lallana is C**p, Firmino is not even a striker he’s more of a CAM who can play as a striker, and Ibe is just really inconsistent

        • He’s one of my favourites too but he’s inconsistent to fight for a starting XI, When Couts and Lallana ansd Firmino where not doing very much something ansd Benteke… well, Ibe could’ve fight for it and after the game against kazan i was fully supporting him for that starter spot but i don’t know why he wasn’t selected and next thing you know you see him a month later against the saints, I don’t know what happened but he needs to grab this opportunity now before Couts return against the scums

    • The fabled 12th man could help if they show up. Bullet headers from set pieces too now that Coutinho isn’t on the pitch to show us his ode to Aspas with every dead ball.

    • The tactical battle…gegenpressing coupled with proper attack and goal scoring chances has a chance of working against a team like Arsenal.

  9. today is a huge game in my household..since he hacked my account and I burnt his jersey, my brother and I have had a very tense peace..it could be broken tonight. God I hope we beat them, I won’t be able to stand the new few weeks otherwise.

  10. take it easy guys. Bogdans had a bad run. we signed him for on a 5m if i recall. hardly think that his time is up.

  11. Giroud has more goals than Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Can, Benteke, Ibe, Milner and Henderson combined this season…need toure and sahko to be on their game tonight!! and lucas should stick with ozil everywhere he goes, for get playing today just hang onto ozil and dont let go

  12. I know Arsenal are playing really well and are deservedly top, but I really don’t fear their team. Our worst enemy is ourselves. Lets hope the lads can do it tonight.
    Come on!!!!
