Irishman Robbie Keane signed for Liverpool on July 28th 2008, becoming the club’s second most expensive signing (the record being Fernando Torres). The fee was reported by the selling club, Tottenham as 19m pounds, with 1.3m more in potential bonuses.
Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane, a boyhood Liverpool fan, turned down the chance to play for Liverpool as a teenager, opting instead to join Wolves. Following this, he had spells at Covetry, Inter and Leeds before sealing a move to Tottenham.
He became one the Premierships most feared strikers at Tottenham, scoring 80 league goals in just under 200 games. He has also been a hit at international level. His 33 goals in 81 games includes 3 goals at the 2002 World Cup.
His impressive record promted Liverpool to pay £19 million for his services in July 2008. It is hoped that the clubs second most expensive signing will form a good partnership with Fernando Torres in front of goal.
