Spanish left-winger Albert Riera was bought from Espanyol on the final day of the transfer window in August 2008 for a fee of around £8million.

At the time of signing, Riera had won five caps for his country and his availability had been tracked by several Premier League clubs during the summer.

Riera briefly spent some time on-loan at Manchester City in 2006, scoring one goal in fifteen appearances.
