Houllier still wants Cisse

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier insists that he is still trying to salvage a deal to take Reds striker Djibril Cisse to Lyon, despite the French international striker breaking his leg last week.

Any hopes that the transfer would go through this summer were lost when Cisse sustained the injury, not expected to be back in action until late Autumn.

But Houllier, who originally signed Cisse to Liverpool but left before his arrival on Merseyside, says he still wants to sign the £6million-rated forward, but not until he is back to full fitness.

“We’re awaiting his return to fitness, which could be around Christmas,” said Houllier.

Meanwhile Marseille are also monitoring Cisse and chairman Pape Diouf revealed, “Nothing has been decided. We will talk again, but the most important thing is for the boy to recover. The boy and ourselves still want to spend some time on the same path.”
