Reds see off Spurs

Liverpool 3-0 Tottenham Hostpurs

Second goals from Mark Gonzales, Dirk Kuyt and John Arne Riise gave Liverpool an impressive victory over Tottenham at Anfield on Saturday.

Gonzales opened the scoring from close range, following in a Craig Bellamy shot after he had hit the post from a cross created by Stevie Gerrard down the Reds right side. Gerrard impressively cut inside the Spurs full back and placed a threatening cross behind the defence which Bellamy met but somehow guided onto the post. But Gonzales was there to stroke home from 7 yards across into the opposite corner.

The opening goal came seconds after midfielder Jermaine Jenas had missed a sitter at the other end.

Dirk Kuyt then claimed his second goal for the club in successive games, opening his Kop end account with a well taken finish from a Luis Garcia through ball. Kuyt’s emphatic finish left Paul Robinson stranded. The Dutchman again put in an impressive performance and is quickly become a fans favourite.

Liverpool’s third came in the final minutes when John Arne Riise, back in the side after injury, collected the ball in midfield and unleashed an unstoppable arrow-like shot into the far bottom corner from all of 30 yards. Another blockbuster from the Norweigan.
