Midfield monster Javier Mascherano is leading the way in the early stages of the TIA Player of the Month for February, with just over 50% of the votes the Argentinian fans favourite looks set to win the award for the second month running.
Just as he was towards the end of last season when he won the player of the month for March, April and May, Mascherano has been the most consistent performer in the Reds midfield.
Somehow some fans still question the ₤17m transfer fee required to sign Mascherano permanently but to most it would be money very well spent on arguably the best holding midfielder in the world. One thing is for sure, the vast majority of Liverpool fans clearly do not want to see him leave when his loan deal expires in the summer. Despite the PR from Tom Hicks, Mascherano still hasn’t completed his move to Anfield.
But forward Fernando Torres has almost 30% of the early votes and after his second hat trick of the season against Boro at the weekend, he is also a leading candidate for the monthly award – which goes towards out Player of the Year award.
Other impressive performers during February included Sami Hyypia and Lucas Leiva.
